The LIV league captain revealed in an interview with ESPN that Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund director, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, had ‘told him the circuit will remain in business.’

Johnson told the four-letter network; ‘Everything I’ve heard, they’re still working on a full schedule for next year,’ he said.

‘The rest of this year and 2024 is going to be the same as far as I know. After that, you know as much as I do.’

Bryson DeChambeau also added he had spoken to the new Saudi investor and that he expected to see the competition extend beyond this calendar year — but would not revealed specifics of the dialogue.

‘That is what was talked about,’ DeChambeau said. ‘Those are private conversations, and I don’t know exactly what his future plans are because he was right about to go on CNBC [June 6].

‘I didn’t know what all was going on, but he said a couple of other cool ideas that I think could be interesting for the game of golf.

‘But we’ll see if it all happens because you’ve still got to dial in all of the details. There’s a lot of unknowns.’

That is true of the wider golf universe, heightened by PGA Tour Commissioner’s leave of absence resultant of an unspecified medical issue.

While presently unclear as to how the sport will look in the wake of the partnership, The Times reports there are plans to reward the Tour players who did not bow to the Saudi millions on offer to them.

The report claims that a ‘compensation fund’ is being created for the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, which will hand them some of the money they missed out on by not joining the breakaway LIV Golf tour.

The plan will allow the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Lee Westwood – who did leave the PGA for LIV – to keep the money they were paid too, while also handing the PGA’s top players substantial cash to ‘level up’ their financial rewards.

Players from both entities will square off Thursday through Sunday at the U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club. Tee time for the opening round is 9.45am ET.
