You can officially add Hall of Fame Boston Celtics small forward Paul Pierce to the ranks of those who do not want the Celtics to fire Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla. “You can’t keep bringing in new voices,” suggested Pierce on a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball “Ticket and the Truth” podcast (h/t MassLive’s Brian Robb).

“I’m going to add to what I’ve got right now — I’ve got to add to it,” he continued. “It’s already good! I’ve got to add to it. It’s already there. So, I’m bringing Mazzulla back but maybe I’m bringing in a veteran coach, like Sam Cassell.”

“Some influence on the bench, respect, a champion, (has) been a coach, (and) understands what it takes,” added The Truth.

Cassell, for his part, has been a hot name in recent head coaching searches himself, but could be on the way out as the Doc Rivers era of the Philadelphia 76ers comes to an end.

Adding names like his and perhaps former Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas to Mazzulla’s bench before they are snapped up by other organizations ought to be a top priority for Boston this offseason.
