While The Swooshes’ famed yet fictional Air Max Day is set to return the Air Max 1’s original big bubble, the Beaverton brand is additionally preparing the iconic Tinker Hatfield design in a myriad of preparatory styles. Recently, a premium-infused proposition surfaced in a textile homage to Tokyo, Japan.
Since 2003, Japan’s widely-appreciated “Shima Shima” pack has played an important role in the design process of consecutive homages to the fashion and streetwear scene of the country’s most populous city. From the upcoming resurgence of the AM1 Shima Shima in “Plum Eclipse” to the model’s recently previewed “Design By Japan” construction, the eastern island city tossing the silhouette under a titular knife with a reptilian twist.
Harkening to Michigan’s iconic navy blue and maize hues, the darker embellishment touches down across the buttery leather base layer in tandem with its nylon tongue construction and embroidered forefoot Check. In stark opposition, the bright yellow leather overlays dawn a snakeskin texture while the Swooshes scales receive a more life-like coloring. Accompanied by a neutral cream sole unit, the vibrant two-toned ensemble concludes with the caution yellow hues encompassing the leather sock liner and tread underfoot.
