Kyrgios, 28, will not play at the first grand slam of the year after he announced that he is not yet fully recovered from the injuries that kept him out for most of the 2023 season.

But while his rivals will not have to deal with Kyrgios’s booming serves, they may be on the receiving end of his outspoken opinions as broadcaster Eurosport revealed the Canberra-born star will provide his ‘unique perspectives’ at the tournament.

‘To enhance the storytelling like never before, we’ve assembled one of the most impressive expert line-ups of tennis legends and superstars,’ Eurosport boss Scott Young said.

‘We’re particularly excited to welcome Nick Kyrgios to our English language commentary team this year and know fans will benefit from his unique perspectives and closeness to the current crop of champions and competitors taking to the court this year.’

Kyrgios will join tennis royalty on Eurosport’s coverage, including Boris Becker, John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Justine Henin, Alex Corretja, Barbara Schett, Tim Henman and Laura Robson.

The 28-year-old had a bumper 2022 season, reaching the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic and winning the Australian Open doubles with good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis.

However he endured a wretched run of injuries in 2023, restricting him to just one professional matches all year, a straight sets loss to China’s Wu Yibing at the Stuttgart Open in June.

The Aussie star was not named in the main draw and confirmed on his newly created OnlyFans account that he will miss the local grand slam because of an ongoing wrist complaint.

‘Hey guys, Nick Kyrgios here, obviously had a really tough year with injury, had that knee surgery and came back a little too soon (which) set me back a little bit, obviously had some wrist issues,’ Kyrgios said.

‘So this is a very disappointing time for me but yeah I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open.

‘Obviously heartbreaking, I’ve had so many amazing memories there and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right and I need a little more time.

‘I was so close to winning a grand slam, I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back so please bear with me.’
