Marcus Smart continues to shine as the Boston Celtics’ starting point guard.
The C’s offense was firing on all cylinders in the first quarter of Wednesday night’s game vs. the Utah Jazz, and Smart was the straw that stirred the drink. He dished out nine assists in the frame to tie Rajon Rondo for the most in one quarter in franchise history. Rondo accomplished the feat on Nov. 14, 2014 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That’s also tied for the most assists by any player in any quarter in the NBA this season.
Smart entered Wednesday’s action averaging 5.7 assists per game. The longest-tenured Celtic has 7.4 assists per game so far in March. His career-high for assists in a single game is 12.
Boston started the game vs. Utah 10-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-6 from 3-point range. It finished the first quarter with 39 points on 13-of-15 shooting.
