Loud boos went around Centre Court for his outburst, although commentator and former British tennis star Andrew Castle understood his frutration.

Speaking on the BBC’s coverage, he said: ‘It’s understandable. He has just lost his serve in the fifth set.’

Alcaraz went 5-3 up in the third set, forcing Djokovic to take control and serve to stay in the match, which he did.

However, Alcaraz took matters into his own hand and held his serve to be crowned Wimbledon champion, defeating the man who had won the last four in a row.
