Former British No 1 Kyle Edmund suffers fresh setback after pulling out of next month’s Battle of the Brits because he is still recovering from knee surgery

Concerns are growing about the long-term future of former British No 1 Kyle Edmund after he was ruled out of next month’s Battle of the Brits.
The ex-world No 14 and Australian Open semi-finalist will miss the England versus Scotland event in Aberdeen just before Christmas.
Edmund, still only 26, had knee surgery in the summer after a year of discomfort, and hoped he would be fit by the end of the year.

However he is continuing to experience problems and it now looks unlikely, having not played since October last year, that he will be back for the Australian Open.
That is also expected to take place without another former GB No 1, Jo Konta, who may well have formalised her retirement plans by then.

Scotland will be skippered by Ally McCoist and golfer Paul Lawrie, while doing the job for England will be Chris Sutton and TV presenter Clare Balding.
The details of Emma Raducanu’s one playing appearance in the UK since the US Open have also been finalised. She will face Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in an exhibition match as part of the Champions Tennis event at the Royal Albert Hall on November 28.
