Trash talk between Draymond, Seth left Steph feeling awkward originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Draymond Green is renowned to be one the best trash talkers in the NBA.

Any opponent on the floor (or referees, for that matter) could be the target of a harsh comment or two from Draymond, especially when they try to go after Warriors superstar Steph Curry. But it’s a little different when the subject of Draymond’s insults is related to Steph.

During the Warriors’ four-game sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2019 Western Conference Finals, Draymond and guard Seth Curry got into a heated exchange.

On Wednesday, the younger Curry brother went on “The Draymond Green Show” and took a fun trip down memory lane recalling their not-so-friendly conversation. Seth, who was in his fifth NBA season but still trying to find his place in the league at the time, considered being approached by Draymond as more of a compliment than anything else.

“You came into the game, you was talking s—t to me,” the younger Curry brother said. “I was loving it, man. You was talking s—t. I was like, ‘I might be here now. I might be even making a little mark. Draymond talks some s—t to me, trying to get in my head during the game. So I’m doing something right.'”

Unlike Steph, who has previously described his smack talk as more “under the radar” and prefers silencing opponents with dagger 3-pointers, Seth will mix it up with opponents.

“One game we were talking crazy at the free-throw line,” Seth said. “And I’m not Steph — I’ll talk back to you. I’ll enjoy it. I ain’t going to just go play my game. I’m going to talk back and say my piece.”

The trash talk between Seth and Draymond left Steph in a strange position.

“Steph was there at the free-throw line in between us,” Seth laughed. “He was acting all awkward. He didn’t know what to do. I’m his brother. You’re his guy he’s been going to war with for 10 years. Steph didn’t know what to do at the line.

“But I was loving it though, my guy.”

Seth was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden-Ben Simmons blockbuster at the 2021-22 deadline. The only potential postseason matchup between the Warriors and Nets, of course, would be in the 2022 NBA Finals.

During the podcast, Draymond gave Seth a big compliment, but if a Curry showdown happens in the Finals, Draymond gave the younger Curry a warning.

“If we play in the NBA Finals, I might have to lay you out because of this. But [Seth] is one of the one guys in the league — Steph going to kill me for this — that can get the better of Steph.”

Well, now Seth has more than a few talking points for the next Curry family get together.
