‘There is a real possibility’ Robert Williams III could return early in Boston’s first-round playoff series

While we have heard repeatedly from the team itself that starting Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III might not make it back from his surgery to repair a torn left lateral meniscus any sooner than his initial 4-to-6 week prognosis, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski hinted that might not be the case at all in a recent interview where he discussed the potential return of the Timelord ahead of schedule during the looming playoff series with the Brooklyn Nets.

“The possibility, I’m told, is very real that Robert Williams could return in this first-round series against the Nets,” explained Wojnarowski. “Game 6 would fall on one month … from his left knee meniscus surgery.” Woj went on to note that the idea that Williams might return even before then was not a new one.

“He’s continued to progress, he’s met all his benchmarks so far, I’m told,” added the ESPN analyst. “There is a real possibility for Boston … (Williams) could be back to play against the Nets in the back end of this series against Brooklyn.”

With the Nets trending in the direction of better health as well with plenty of offensive firepower of their own to bring to bear, any additional tools to deploy in the series will be welcome on the Celtics roster.

And the opportunity of seeing Timelord back on the court this season is of course going to be very warmly received by fans hungry for a win over Brooklyn.
