Draymond jokingly vows to reach season quota of techs originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Draymond Green is no stranger to NBA leaderboards.

In 2016-17, he led the league with an average of 2.0 steals per game. And he’s always near the top of the list for technical fouls.

Although he’s only played in 43 of the Warriors’ 79 contests this season, Draymond is among the league leaders in technical fouls once again.

During the second quarter of Golden State’s 109-90 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night, the Warriors’ forward was whistled for an offensive foul after getting tangled up with Josh Jackson in the paint. In classic Draymond fashion, he argued the call and was assessed his 14th technical foul of the season.

“I said that was dead wrong,” Draymond said of his conversation with the referee. “That’s what happened.

“The official then went on to tell me, ‘You spoke to me very generously. You were very generous speaking to me. I gave you a tech for talking to me.’”

Only three players have received more technical fouls than Draymond this season — Luka Doncic, Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell Westbrook with 15 apiece.

Delivering the line with a smile, Draymond vowed to reach that number.

“What am I at, 14 techs?” Draymond said. “My last three are kind of insane, but I guess I haven’t met the quota yet. I’ll probably get to 15 like I do every year. It is what it is.”

The Warriors — and Draymond’s wallet — would prefer if he stayed under 16 technical fouls for the season. That milestone comes with a one-game suspension and a $5,000 fine.

Golden State has three games remaining on its schedule. Draymond is averaging one technical foul every three games, so there’s a good chance he reaches his, uh, goal.

You’ve been warned, NBA referees.
