Washington Wizards rookie Johnny Davis put up a career effort on Monday on assignment in the G League and nearly led the Capital City Go-Go to victory in the process.

Davis produced a season-high 25 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 125-124 loss to the Delaware Blue Coats. He finished by shooting 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, in 32 minutes of action.

The 10th pick produced his first 20-point game of the season with the performance. He connected on his first five 3s of the game and had 16 points alone in the first half for his best outing of the season.

“The game is starting to flow for him, a little bit more like Wisconsin Johnny,” Go-Go head coach Mike Williams said, according to Wayne Cole on Twitter. “He got to his spots really well. He is starting to read the floor and see the game. He played a hell of a game.”

Davis has scored at least 17 points in three straight games on shooting 50% from the field for the first time this season. He has totaled only three turnovers over that span and has largely made the right decisions on or off the ball.

He is as comfortable as he has been all season.

“I think I’m just starting to feel a lot more comfortable while I play,” Davis said. “Normally, people are talking about you want to put yourself in uncomfortable situations and challenge yourself, and that’s how it was when I first got here. But I think now I’m starting to get into a rhythm and be more comfortable when I play.”

Davis has not cracked the Wizards’ rotation this season with so many veterans ahead of him on the roster. He has totaled just 63 minutes across 13 appearances as the team has opted to keep him with the Go-Go throughout the season.

Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. previously noticed that Davis has played with a different level of confidence recently and that is resulting in some of his best performances of the season. The opportunity to log consistent playing time with the Go-Go appears to be paying off for him.

The organization was ecstatic to add Davis through the draft and believes he has a bright future ahead. The minutes in the G League should go a long way in Davis finding success in the NBA.
