WIMBLEDON COURT REPORT: Norrie’s unlikely friendship with Bon Jovi revealed as Boulter watches on

There was a lot of action on the fifth day of the famous Wimbledon tournament but it was another day to forget for the Brits.

Fan-favourite Andy Murray came crashing out and was joined on the way home by Cam Norrie and Liam Broady.

Katie Boutler is now the only Brit standing at the famous tournament and will be looking to progress.

Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka also tasted defeat to none other than the favourite, Novak Djokovic, as he’s on his way to the next round.

There were plenty of things that we learned from day five, though, with many coming off the court. Here’s Mail Sport’s Court Report from Wimbledon, by Kieran Gill.

YOU GIVE 40-LOVE A BAD NAME

Servin’ on a prayer.

Drop shot through the heart. We could have plenty of fun with Jon Bon Jovi’s back catalogue. But his greatest hit has been with Cameron Norrie, the British No 1 who is a family friend.

Norrie and Bon Jovi have practised together and the rock n’ roll star was at Wimbledon to support his casual playing partner, although he could not help prevent a surprise defeat.

RUBLEV’S WATCHING BRIEF

Andrey Rublev, the 25-year-old Russian ranked seventh in the world, is sponsored by the luxury Italian brand BVLGARI and it is noticeable that, unlike others, he has now taken to wearing their dark green £3,080 ‘Match Point Edition’ watch on court to boost the brand.

DUST UP FOR DE MINAUR

British No 1 Katie Boulter found herself in the middle of a slanging match on Court 18 as she watched boyfriend Alex de Minaur face Matteo Berrettini.

De Minaur’s team were unhappy with Italian journalists supporting Berrettini. After being told to zip it, one hack told them: ‘You stop cheering, we stop cheering.’ De Minaur lost in straight sets.

CORNET HAS A TICKETING TANTRUM

Wimbledon is the worst Grand Slam when it comes to the treatment of unseeded players, according to Alize Cornet.

She played on Court 10 in the first round and got two tickets for guests. Then she played Elena Rybakina on Centre Court and was given 40.

‘This tournament exists because of all the players, not only the ones on the big courts,’ the French player said.

ANDY PICTURE NOT PERFECT

Illustrator Grant Gruenhaupt was commissioned to produce a piece to mark the 10-year anniversary of Andy Murray’s first title.

But some critics noted that, in the picture, the score of the second set against Novak Djokovic is wrong.

SW19 chiefs seem to have noticed, as the version they have been sharing on social media shows the correct score — 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.

ALI’S A SASSY DRESSER

Aliaksandra Sasnovich  must have skipped the morning’s weather report.

With the temperature approaching 30°C, she wore leggings and a long-sleeve top for her straight-sets loss to Petra Kvitova on Court Two.

COUNTRYLESS CLASH
Out on Court 12 there was a battle between two women playing at Wimbledon without a nation attached to their names.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka won 6-2, 6-4 over Daria Kasatkina, who is one of the few Russians willing to speak out against Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine, much to her credit.
