The Boston Celtics‘ 2023 second round pick, Jordan Walsh, has been playing quite well in the NBA’s 2023 Las Vegas Summer League so far this season, getting attention for looking like a more complete player than many expected by this point of his career.
Walsh’s shooting improvement is driven by the floor spacing at the NBA level according to a new article from FTW’s Bryan Kalbrosky. Unlike the Razorbacks, who had poor floor spacing, even the summer league Celtics provide better opportunities for Walsh. Despite struggling with his shooting at Arkansas, his minutes on the court were rated as some of the most positive analytically. His ability to make winning plays, create extra possessions, and pass effectively made a difference for his college team while hinting at what more was possible.
Arkansas ranked poorly in floor spacing among all NCAA teams, making it hard for Walsh to find a shooting rhythm. However, with the improved spacing in the NBA, he’s been able to showcase his offensive skills more.
