West Ham have emerged as serious contenders to sign forward Elye Wahi from Montpellier.

The French side rejected a bid from Chelsea last month for the 20-year-old.

The interest in Wahi has been repotedly driven by Tim Steidten, West Ham’s technical director.

The club have held positive early talks with representatives of the player and Montpellier but face competition.

Wahi is valued at €35million (£30m) by Montpellier.

With Lucas Paqueta likely to join Manchester City, David Moyes is looking to strengthen his attack.

West Ham remain in talks over Ajax winger Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus was linked with a €40m move to Brighton earlier this summer but the deal never happened and he played the full 90 minutes in Ajax’s Eredivisie opener last weekend, scoring in a 4-1 win over Heracles.

The Hammers are also in advanced talks with Stuttgart over former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The Stuttgart defender has also had interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolves and Nottingham Forest this summer but is attracted by the prospect of a return to London under David Moyes.
