Why Green’s shooting numbers dropped to career-lows last year originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

New Warriors forward JaMychal Green made it clear that he’s ready to bring the “dog” mentality to the Bay and willing to do the dirty work to help Golden State defend its latest title.

But before even thinking about hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time in his NBA career, the 6-foot-8, 227-pound forward admitted that there are a few things he needs to work on.

His shooting is at the top of that list.

Last season with the Denver Nuggets, Green’s shooting numbers dropped to a career-worst 26.6 percent from behind the arc.

In speaking to reporters on Monday, Green explained the reasoning behind his numbers being down.

“I had a wrist injury,” Green said Monday at his introductory news conference. “So, that played a lot with me shooting. When it got toward the end of the season, I just stopped shooting period. Started working around the basket more and ended up jamming my wrist.”

Still, the 32-year-old shot 48.6 percent from the field after making 62.1 percent of his field goals. He also shot 87.1 percent from the charity stripe.

And Green is confident that his shooting will improve next season.

“It’s all about reps and confidence,” Green said. “As long as I get my reps, I’ll be good to go. I was just fighting through some things last year and just had a down shooting year. It’s gon’ get up.”

Plus he’ll be around some of the greatest shooters of all time so that surely will help.

He isn’t expected to join the Splash family by any means, but solid shooting from Green and knocking down open shots will help the Warriors in ways they’re looking for.
