Former British Number one Heather Watson fell short alongside her doubles partner Anna Danilina against Japan’s Miyu Kato and Indonesian star Aldila Sutjiadi. 

Despite having won nine titles throughout her career, including the 2016 mixed doubles title at Wimbledon, it was not enough at the US Open. 

Miyu Kato and Aldila Sutjiadi secured a win in two sets, winning 6-3, 6-1 to knock out Watson and Danilina.

Her doubles partner, Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan, brings a powerful serve and impressive net skills – though their opponents outclassed the pair in straight sets.
