Maxey’s All-Star weekend gets busier with new event originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Not a ton of NBA fans know very much about Tyrese Maxey, but he will get plenty of fans’ eyes on him this All-Star weekend.

The second-year Sixers guard, already selected to play in the Clorox Rising Stars Challenge, was announced Thursday afternoon as an injury replacement for the Clorox Clutch Challenge, a shooting event that will take place Friday night in between games 2 and 3 of the Rising Stars.

Maxey will replace Kings guard Davion Mitchell in the Clutch Challenge, an event which will feature four two-man teams going head to head. Maxey will be paired with Raptors guard Scottie Barnes.

Each team has up to 90 seconds to sink shots from five specific spots on the floor, each of which were signature shots of five members of the league’s 75th Anniversary Team:

•    Charles Barkley (top of the key)

•    Ray Allen (right corner 3)

•    Magic Johnson (baby hook)

•    Damian Lillard (logo 3)

•    Reggie Miller (right wing 3)

This seems like a fun new wrinkle for All-Star weekend, and you have to applaud the NBA for at least trying new things.

It adds up to a busy night for Maxey’s first foray into All-Star weekend.
