In an unsurprising decision, Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from the upcoming 2023 U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club this June.

The 15-time major winner underwent surgery in April following an appearance at The Masters.

This procedure, a subtalar fusion, was done to treat post-traumatic arthritis from when the golfer broke his leg in a car wreck.

Woods pulled out of The Masters, saying he was dealing with recurring plantar fasciitis after having made the cut for the 23rd time in a row.

Tiger has not played in a U.S. Open since 2019 – when the tournament returned to Pebble Beach – due to the COVID outbreak as well as multiple injuries. He finished that 2019 tournament at two-under par and tied for 21st.

Surgery was completed back on April 19, at the Hospital for Special Surgery’s Sports Medicine Institute in New York.

This tournament would have been something of a homecoming for Woods, who was born in Cypress, California – about 40 miles away from LACC.

Woods has won three past editions of the U.S. Open: in 2000 at Pebble Beach, 2002 at Bethpage Black, and in 2008 at Torrey Pines.
