Charlie won the second round of the Last Chance Regional this weekend with his dad on the bag, booking a place in the Notah Begay III National Championship in November.

But if there were any secrets to success passed down from father to son, Charlie was keeping them quiet when he spoke after his excellent round.

‘We just stay in our own little world,’ he said of having his dad out on the course with him. ‘We take it one shot at a time.

‘He puts me in my place. I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.”‘

The Notah Begay III National Championship is played November 4-6 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta Casino Resort in Louisiana.

Shane Croft, whose son Chase was paired with Charlie – and in turn, Tiger – was thrilled by the experience.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘Ok, EPIC would in no way be a big enough word to describe today. Chase was paired with Tiger Woods’ son Charlie at the Notah Begay tournament at Mission Inn.

‘Tiger and I were the boys’ caddies. Honestly, there is no way to express what this was like. Four hours one on one with Charlie and Tiger was just unreal. Can’t even thank Ryan Burr enough for orchestrating this entire day.

‘His tournament is so professionally run. Just next level junior golf. Anyway, this will be a story my family talks about on my deathbed one day. And it will be a proud moment for sure.’

For the 47-year-old Woods, he has not played since the Masters in Augusta this year, where he withdrew from the tournament after hobbling his way around the course on a rainy round, reaggravating his plantar fasciitis in the process.

It was then, 10 days later, that he went under the knife in New York and no timeline was given for a potential return to golf.
