Pieters represents the second big signing of the offseason for CEO Greg Norman, who also convinced world No. 46 Mito Pereira to join the Saudi-backed circuit.

‘As a 16, 17-year-old, you’ve got a dream of winning trophies but you never think about the money.

‘I’ve had a very good life out of golf. I can walk away and have a very nice life right now. That’s not what it’s about; I love playing.

Now, Pieters will be able to enjoy both, with LIV Golf known more its more relaxed, yet equally energetic invitationals.

Earlier this week, the Belgian shared his disappointment at not being invited to the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event in Los Angeles, despite his esteemed world ranking.

‘Sad to miss my favorite tournament of the year. Because well as #34 in world, I just couldn’t get in @PGATOUR #GenesisInvitational,’ he wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

Pieters’s defection comes days after a federal judge ruled the head of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund must produce documents in its antitrust lawsuit against the Tour.
