The Boston Celtics are currently the hottest team in the NBA with a nine-game winning streak and are poised to push it to ten so long as they take care of the Detroit Pistons on their home court of TD Garden Wednesday night.
Their last game, in particular, truly demonstrated just how dangerous the Celtics can be when they play together while moving the ball and playing head coach Ime Udoka’s brand of lockdown team defense. Asked by the media after the 135 – 87 beatdown of the Philadelphia 76ers felt by the press how it felt to be playing high-level, defensive-oriented winning basketball against top opponents, star forward Jaylen Brown didn’t miss a beat.
“It feels great,” related Brown with an air of subtle satisfaction.
“This is probably one of the better defensive teams in my career,” observed the Georgia native.
“We’ve had some really good defensive units, but it feels it feels like part of squadrons, so it feels really good, it feels connected. We’ve got a lot of guys each and every night stepping up on this side of the ball. I don’t think they get enough credit. Rob (Williams III) has been fantastic, (Marcus) Smart, of course, is going to be Smart. (Jayson Tatum), we’ve been playing both sides of the ball all season and we’re still getting better.”
“So, we’ve been getting the job done on that and that’s what’s going to give us a chance down the line,” he added.
And while Brown did not explicitly say what it was his team would have a chance at, in Boston, it is understood that titles are the goal.
And with the way this team has been playing of late, we believe he is not wrong to set such lofty goals in a season that feels as open as it ever has.
