One of the most famous golf tournaments is nearly upon us, with the Masters set to return next week.

The tournament will see the world’s best go head-to-head as they look to win the famous green jacket.

Jack Nicklaus has won the most Masters tournaments with six. He was also the first back-to-back winner, winning the tournament in 1965 and 1966. His other Masters victories came in 1963, 1972, 1975 and 1986.

Tiger Woods is close behind Nicklaus with five wins in total. His last win at the tournament came in 2019.

When does it start?

This year’s Masters will be held from Thursday, April 6, until Sunday, April 9.

As always, the tournament will take place at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

The action is set to get underway at 2pm in the UK on the first two days, and 4pm on the final two days.

With play getting underway at 2pm in the UK for the first two days, the action in the US will start at 9am ET and 8am CT.

The final two days of the tournament will start at 11am ET and 10am CT.

How to watch

Sky Sports will be broadcasting all the action throughout the week. The build-up to the tournament will start on Monday, April 3, ahead of the opening day on Thursday.

Coverage of the featured groups will be shown live on Sky Sports Golf on Thursday from 2pm.

Golf fans will also be able to stream the action on the official Sky Go app.

The main action will get underway at 7.30pm UK time.

What’s the prize money on offer?

According to Sports Lens, the overall purse is £12.1million ($15m) – which will be handed out to the players depending on where they finish in the tournament.

The reported £12m purse for this year’s tournament is the same as last year.

The winner of this year’s tournament will earn around £2.2m ($2.7m), while the runners-up will take home £1.3m (1.6m).

The player who ends up finishing third in the tournament will come away with just over £800,000 (£1m).

What’s been said?

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has enjoyed a successful year so far, winning the Phoenix Open and The Players Championship.

Heading into the Masters, Scheffler revealed that he knows Augusta National well enough now that there aren’t any surprises.

‘There’s always a couple greens that are different than the rest, depending upon which ones they have replaced and that I noticed,’ Scheffler said.

‘I think I’ve been around the golf course a good amount, where I kind of know what’s happening and I have a good feel for what goes on and when you go and play this time of year it’s still a lot different than the tournament because the green speeds aren’t exactly the same and the pin locations obviously are a bit different.’
