One fans made a play on words by writing: ‘That was a ‘crisp’ volley’. The commentator was equally impressed, saying: ‘This is brilliant.’

However, some fans were less than impressed with Bublik’s actions and called for him to be penalised. The social media user wrote: ‘Am I the only ‘old school’ who thinks this is anti-fair play behaviour and should be penalised? It’s a gentlemen’s sport.’

Bublik’s mid-match snack clearly spurred him on as he saved a match point on his way to winning 6-3 6-7 7-5.

Bublik has been no stranger to pulling off the unexpected during his matches over the years, with one of his best moments came in the 2022 Miami Open.

He produced a jaw-dropping shot using the handle of his racket to win a point in his defeat by Casper Ruud – leaving the crowd, and his opponent, in awe.

Ruud had launched a high ball into the air. Bublik made a quick dash to the net after spotting the ball about to drop down and, while doing so, was able to turn his racket upside down.

In stunning style, Bublik was able to make contact with the handle and pull off a near-perfect drop shot. Ruud managed to squeeze away a return, before his show-stopping opponent won the point with an overhead smash.

Bublik has also hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, producing a stunning on-court meltdown in Montpellier in 2023.

Bublik could not contain his annoyance during the match and destroyed his racquet by smashing it into the court a total of five times.

He then headed for his kit bag and smashed a further two racquets before a fourth was given stay of execution as he went to finish the match.
