Suns are very popular NBA title bet

The Phoenix Suns have had the NBA’s best record for a significant chunk of the season, so it’s no surprise that bettors are high on the Suns winning it all.

The Suns lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in last year’s NBA Finals, but are out for revenge this time around. At 61-14, the Suns have the best record in the league by far and have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack as the betting favorite to win the title at BetMGM.

The Suns currently have +300 odds to win the championship, ahead of the Brooklyn Nets (+600), Bucks (+650), Golden State Warriors (+700) and Philadelphia 76ers (+800). At the beginning of March, the Suns and Warriors were tied as the betting favorites at +450 with the Nets not far behind at +600.

Since then, the Suns have continued to play at a high level. Bettors have noticed.

According to BetMGM, 21.3% of the bets and 27.7% of the money for NBA Championship futures has come in on the Suns. That includes one bet of $20,000 on the Suns at +300. BetMGM also received a separate $20,000 bet on the Suns to win the West at +120 odds.

For the NBA title, the Warriors are next in line at 12.8% of the bets and 13.0% of the money. The two most-popular Eastern Conference teams are the 76ers at 10.1% of the bets and 11.5% of the money and the Nets at 7.6% of the bets and 11.1% of the money.

A bit further down the list are the Bucks, the defending champions. Milwaukee has received 7.2% of the bets and 5.6% of the money.

The Los Angeles Lakers, who opened the year at +450 but are now +10000 as they fight for a spot in the West’s play-in tournament, have received 6.5% of the bets and 6.5% of the money. Presumably most of that action came much earlier in the season.
