Steph hyped Klay is back after season-high 33 in Dubs’ win originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Klay Thompson put on a show for the Warriors and Dub Nation in Golden State’s thrilling 117-115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night at Chase Center.

For the first time since his return on Jan. 9, Thompson surpassed the 30-point plateau, finishing with a game-high 33 points, including a sizzling 16 points in the fourth quarter.

After the game, Thompson spoke about how special the game was for him considering his dad, Mychal, was in attendance calling the game on the Lakers radio broadcast.

But seeing Thompson go off in vintage fashion also was memorable for Steph Curry. The Splash Brothers didn’t get to play together for 31 months while Thompson rehabbed a torn ACL and then a torn Achilles. But they are back together and no one is happier than Curry.

After the win over the Lakers, Curry spoke to reporters and cited the Warriors’ previous game against the New York Knicks as a reason why Thompson’s 33-point performance was so important.

Against the Knicks, Thompson took the final shot, hoping to send the game to overtime. Instead, he missed and the Warriors lost by two. But the fact that Klay didn’t dwell on the miss and came out firing in the very next game is a perfect example of the confidence he has.

“That was awesome. We needed it obviously,” Curry said after the win over the Lakers. “Right place, right time. The confidence to take those shots. The thing I’m most excited about or proud of, was great to see just knowing how last game ended, how much he wanted to perform down the stretch. That’s how basketball goes, you make some, you miss some but the confidence I talk about all the time, if there’s anyone else who exudes that at the level it should be, it’s Klay. And it was great to hear the crowd get into it, great to see him live in the moment. And it was a special 12 minutes for sure.”

The Splash Brothers are back, and hopefully for everyone involved, Draymond Green can return from his back injury in the coming weeks, reuniting the Warriors’ championship core on the court for the first time since Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.
