The past seven days brought about dozens of new sneaker stories, including holiday Air Jordan releases, IVY PARK x adidas collections, and an Astro Boy-approved Big Red Boot from MSCHF. On Tuesday, LeBron James made history by becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
We at Sneaker News have been covering “the kid from Akron” since our inception – our first post on James dates back to Jan. 14, 2007 – so watching him set a new record live was inspiring. We don’t know what the Swoosh has planned for the Los Angeles Laker moving forward, but would love to see the Oregon-based company give the man all the flowers it can while he can still smell them. The Nike LeBron 20 continues to appear in new colorways, but their stories haven’t been as compelling as past ones have. Nevertheless, we’re glad to have been able to witness greatness.
Kanye West and adidas severed their relationship in October 2022, but the breakup’s effect is still hurting the Three Stripes. The German sportswear company shared in its financial outlook for 2023 that deciding not to repurpose and sell existing YEEZY product could lower revenue for the year by as much as $1.2 billion. There’s no telling what the brand will do, but a reset of sorts is most certainly required.
