The Philadelphia 76ers swung their deal on draft night when they acquired De’Anthony Melton from the Memphis Grizzlies, but they aren’t done making deals just yet.

The Sixers know they need more wing depth after sending Danny Green to the Grizzlies in the deal and they now need help in that department as well as bringing in the right pieces around Joel Embiid and James Harden.

One piece that fits both needs is Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon. The 14-year veteran played with Harden for a little over four seasons in Houston so he knows how to play next to him and he shot 41.2% from deep in the 2021-22 season.

The Sixers have had an interest in acquiring Gordon from the Rockets and even after acquiring Melton, their thought process hasn’t changed as Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

The Sixers also tried to acquire the Rockets’ Eric Gordon on draft night, using Matisse Thybulle as an asset. They even attempted to get a third team to participate, according to multiple league sources. Sources say Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey is still trying to acquire Gordon despite being unsuccessful on Thursday night.

It will be interesting to see what else president Daryl Morey has up his sleeve in order to help improve the Sixers in the 2022 offseason. He has made moves in the past to help the Sixers move forward, but now they need to be able to hit on the right moves this offseason as their window to win is right now. Maybe Gordon is that guy to help them.
