Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an off-spinner, commented on Bangladesh’s performance with the ball on Day 3 (Friday, December 16) of the first Test against India and said that Shakib al Hasan was missed by the team. The all-around player disclosed that the captain’s discomfort kept him from bowling in the second innings.

Despite shoulder and rib injuries acquired in the last ODI series, Shakib has played the first Test in Chattogram.

According to Cricbuzz, the star all-rounder was initially against playing but agreed to participate at the last minute, most likely at the request of BCB president Nazmul Hasan.

The 35-year-old wanted to bat, but the team’s combination was significantly impacted by his injury, as per Cricbuzz. Because the skipper couldn’t bowl, the hosts had to rely on Taijul Islam.

Mehidy said in a statement to Cricbuzz: “Certainly we missed him (Shakib in the bowling attack) and he did not bowl because he was having pain. It’s difficult to bowl when you have pain. He tried a couple of overs in the first innings.”

Shakib bowled 12 overs in the first innings without picking up a wicket, with an economy rate of two runs per over.

“Ebadot Hossain was in a bit of pain”: Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Ebadot Hossain, a fast bowler, missed the second innings owing to a side strain, further compounding Bangladesh’s problems. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who affirmed that this was not a significant injury, added:

“He was in some pain. However, it is not a serious injury. Obviously, every moment in a Test match is difficult, and bowlers must bowl for extended periods of time. Taijul bhai bowled quite well in the first innings,” Mehidy Hasan Miraz said.

“They were playing for runs in the second inning. On this type of wicket, bowlers had to work hard. Since Ebadot’s injury, we’ve been down by a bowler,” Mehidy Hasan Miraz Added.

In contrast, Hossain bowled 21 overs in the first innings and gave up 70 runs while dismissing Shreyas Iyer, who was an important player.
