Hail Mary! Scottie Scheffler’s 88-year-old grandmother goes viral after walking with him for the ENTIRE four days of Players Championship – before watching him scoop $4.5m first prize

An unexpected fans’ favorite was born at the Players Championship this week, in the form of Scottie Scheffler’s 88-year-old grandmother Mary.

The US golf sensation won the tournament by five shots, securing himself a place as world’s No 1 – and the mammoth $4.5million prize.

But after the tournament, it wasn’t the man himself that the internet was talking about, but instead his elderly relative, who spent the entire four days by his side.

As he walked the fairways with his caddie playing the tournament, his grandmother was just behind the rope with her walking aid, cheering him on every step of the way – quite literally.

The PGA Tour posted a video of her walking towards one of the greens at Sawgrass on the final day, with Scheffler edging closer to another career-defining victory.

In the tournament itself, Scheffler raced into a lead and was two shots ahead of the rest of the field heading into the final day on Sunday.

In his fourth round, he was the epitome of cool, calm and collected, extending his lead to five shots and coming home with a final score of 17-under-par.
