Scottie Barnes on Monday recorded a historic stat line to lead the Toronto Raptors to a blowout victory over the Brooklyn Nets on the road to snap a two-game losing streak.

Barnes tied a career-high with 28 points, 16 rebounds, five steals, four assists and one blocked shot in 34 minutes of work during the 133-97 win. He came out on fire, making his first 11 attempts from the field, and finished by shooting 12-of-14 overall.

The fourth pick became just the fifth rookie ever to record at least 25 points, 15 rebounds and five steals in a game, and the first since Shaquille O’Neal during the 1992-93 season, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

He is the first rookie to reach that stat line on 85% shooting from the field.

“He played really good,” Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said. “I really like seeing that aggressiveness like that. It was good, a great rebounding night for him using his size.”

Barnes also became the first rookie since Derrick Rose (2008-09) to be perfect on at least 10 field-goal attempts in a single half. He would eventually miss his first attempt of the game on a layup with 7:08 to go in the third quarter.

He did the majority of his work in the paint as the team ran no plays for him. He hauled in nine offensive rebounds in the contest and had several offensive putbacks and tip-ins. The offensive display wasn’t all that surprising to the team.

“He is going to get it no matter what,” Malachi Flynn said. “You don’t gotta give him the ball. He is gonna go find a way to go get it and those are the best players to play with.”

The Raptors have often implored Barnes to be aggressive this season as good things often happen for the team when he is in attack mode. The performance by Barnes offered yet another example of the production he can give on a nightly basis.
