Gobert: Draymond’s anti-comparison comments ‘noise’ to him originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert doesn’t appear to be phased by recent comments made by Warriors’ veteran forward Draymond Green.

Draymond made it clear during All-Star weekend that he doesn’t like to be compared to Gobert.

“You keep mentioning me in the same sentence with him,” Green told the TNT crew on All-Star Sunday. “We’re not alike.”

“You’re not like Rudy Gobert?” Kenny Smith asked.

“Nah, we ain’t nothing alike,” Green responded.

But Gobert is using the chatter as motivation on the court.

“I saw it, it’s just noise to me,” Gobert said. “If anything, when people keep talking about you, if they’re talking about you in some way, it means you’re doing something right. I’m just gonna keep trying to be the best Rudy I can be, on and off the court. And for my team. The more these people try to discredit what I do or what my team does, it just means we’re doing something right.”

Even though the two are often put side by side due to their defensive impact on the floor, Draymond doesn’t like the comparison.

But Gobert just doesn’t care.

“If anything, the more noise, the harder it becomes to take these people seriously,” Gobert said. “It’s unfortunate that when you have that big a platform, you use it to entertain a crowd. It doesn’t make anyone good to talk down to someone else. When you’re great at what you do, you don’t need to talk down to anybody — the world will recognize you for who you are and what you do. That’s my mindset. It’s just noise. I can’t control it.”

Gobert is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and was named to his fifth consecutive NBA All-Defensive First Team last season.

Meanwhile, Draymond has won DPOY once and has been named to the NBA All-Defensive team six times in his 10-year NBA career.

Both are no doubt game-changers for their teams. And let’s just leave it at that for now, please.
