Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal has hit back at ‘totally false’ claims made by a man who allegedly acted as a translator for the Spanish national team during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

As per Spanish outlet The Objective, Alex Pena claimed to have worked with the international side during the tournament, and has since made a number of allegations about the behaviour of a number of players, including Carvajal, Nacho Monreal, and former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Pena shared details about the players’ alleged conduct on nights out at the tournament in a little-seen YouTube interview with Che America Latina in 2022, but the eyecatching content of the clip failed to gain traction at the time.

But after the video resurfaced on social media, the defender waded in to deny the Pena’s allegations, which evoked a disturbing party atmosphere amidst the camp.

In one incident, Pena alleges, he was brought along to translate on a night out with Carvajal, Monreal, and De Gea, and used his Russian to invite a waitress to join them.

‘We went to a hotel suite,’ Pena claimed. ‘They ordered vodka and a hookah pipe. Suddenly, Carvajal asked me to tell (the woman) that he ‘wanted to put his c*** down her throat.’

Pena later claimed that De Gea – who The Objective states was romantically involved with his now-wife Edurne Garcia at the time – spent the night with the woman.

The so-called translator added that ‘Carvajal did not understand having been rejected as a Real Madrid player’.

As attention on the claims gained traction on social media, Carvajal was quick to dismiss the allegations in the strongest possible terms.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the 31-year-old wrote: ‘All the information reported in the press during these days referring to me is totally false. From my involvement in political parties to a sexual assault at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

‘I find it absolutely regrettable and extremely delicate that the media has the right to write with impunity, giving credibility to the words of third parties, staining my name and honor.

‘I have already taken legal action.’

Spain’s national team time in Russia saw the side fail to make it past the round of 16 after losing the host nation on penalties in a campaign strewn with off-the-pitch turbulences.

Then-Spanish federation head Luis Rubiales played a role in imploding the squad’s preparations with the shock dismissal of head coach Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the tournament.

Lopetegui had been announced as the future Real Madrid boss hours earlier, and Rubiales claimed the publicity around the breaking of the news in part forced his hand as he sacked the manager just two days before Spain’s opener.

The Wolves boss was replaced by the national team’s sporting director, Fernando Hierro.
