Real Madrid will attempt to beat the Premier League’s top clubs to sign Jude Bellingham this summer, with Borussia Dortmund chiefs pessimistic about hanging on to the England midfielder.
The Bundesliga side plan to offer Bellingham an improved deal in the coming months, despite his contract running until June 2025. The 19-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s best midfielders and will not be short of suitors at the end of the season.
Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Bellingham dating back to his time at Birmingham, while Chelsea and Liverpool are following developments. Madrid are in the process of rebuilding their midfield following the departure of Casemiro to Manchester United last summer, while Toni Kroos, who is out of contract at the end of the season, turns 33 in January. Luka Modric is 37 and, though he shows no sign of slowing down, Real must plan for the future.

The Spanish and European champions have signed French pair Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, and Fede Valverde is developing into one of the world’s best midfielders. They see Bellingham as a valuable target as he can play in a number of roles.
If Bellingham does leave next summer, he will command a high price as Sportsmail understands there is no release clause in his £50,000-a-week contract.
