Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja managed to go past Virender Sehwag’s T20I runs tally during the first T20I match against the West Indies.
Jadeja returned back to the Indian team after missing the ODI series against West Indies owing to a knee injury.
Ravindra Jadeja goes past Virender Sehwag in India’s list of most T20I runs
Jadeja scored 16 runs in 13 balls in the first T20I and picked the wicket of West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. He hit a couple of boundaries before getting caught by Keemo Paul off Alzarri Joseph’s bowling.
Jadeja surpassed Sehwag’s tally of 394 T20I runs in 19 games. The Indian all-rounder hasn’t made that big in the list led by skipper Rohit Sharma, who took over Martin Guptill in the leading runs charts in T20Is.
India beat West Indies by 68 runs in 1st T20I
Rohit led from the front with a 44-ball 64 to set the tone against a spiritless West Indies bowling attack.
A late cameo from Dinesh Karthik pushed the visitors to 190/6 in the first innings. Karthik was unbeaten on 41 off 19 deliveries, clubbing four boundaries and a couple of massive sixes, at a strike rate of 215.79.
India restricted the hosts to 122 for eight at the end of the game with Ravichandran Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi claiming two wickets each.
Jadeja needs just one wicket to complete 50 dismissals in the shortest format of the game. He would become the fifth Indian bowler to achieve the feat. Yuzvendra Chahal (79), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (71), Jasprit Bumrah (69) and Ravichandran Ashwin (63) are the other bowlers to do so. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has 48 wickets to his name in T20Is.
Jadeja scored a century in the rescheduled fifth Test against England and made 46 in the first T20I against them to put India in a competitive position.
India will play the second T20I match against West Indies on August 1 at the Green Park in St Kitts.
