2022 was a busy year for Pharrell and adidas. Alongside delivering several colorways of the NMD S1 RYAT, Sichona, and NMD HU, the two also brought further attention to the Samba, emphasizing one of the indoor classic’s most notable features. And now, with 2023 finally upon us, the partnership is bringing things all the way back to the NMD S1, providing the relatively new model a simple, lifestyle-oriented makeover.
Quite a stark departure from its outdoors-inspired predecessor, the Pharrell x adidas NMD S1 MAUBS is a sleek, more minimal interpretation of the original. Canvas materials replace Primeknit here, wrapping the shoe from end to end. Rope laces are strung through the eye stays adjacent, flaunting a lighter, greyer color that complements that of the tongue and collar. Deep blues are then used to highlight both the “Humanrace” branding across the side as well as the much of the shoe’s heel.
