You didn’t think Paul Pierce would pass up an opportunity to watch the Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers, did you?
Pierce was in the house Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena to catch the latest installment of the Celtics-Lakers rivalry, and the C’s nearly ruined his night by blowing a 20-point lead in the second half.
Boston furiously rallied to force overtime, however, and escaped with a 122-118 win that put Pierce in a very, very good mood.
Here’s Pierce in an arena suite basking in the victory while mocking LeBron James’ signature celebration:
“That’s game, baby! Hey LeBron: That’s game!” Pierce shouts with a gleeful smile.
The Truth also shared a postgame hug with Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck and his wife, Emilia.
The rivalry runs deep for Pierce on two fronts: His Celtics met the Lakers twice in the NBA Finals (a win in 2008 and a loss in 2010) and battled James in a total of four Eastern Conference playoff series — two when LeBron was with the Cleveland Cavaliers and two during his time with the Miami Heat.
So, it was extra sweet for Pierce to see the Celtics beat a LeBron-led Lakers team.
As for the Celtics themselves, Tuesday night was a much-needed victory that snapped the team’s two-game losing streak and allowed them to finish 4-2 on a lengthy road trip.
