Pakistan’s slim chances of surviving into the T20 World Cup semi-final stage are still alive after they knocked the Netherlands to the canvas in a lopsided Super 12 clash in Perth.

Dutch batter Bas de Leede was left concussed and bloodied during his team’s limp total of 9-91. The Pakistani top order blasted away in return to reach the victory target inside 14 overs to give their net run rate a boost following narrow losses to India and Zimbabwe.

Pakistan need to win Sunday’s match to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals. But they also need India to defeat South Africa later on Sunday night for the race for second spot in Group 2 to be wide open between them and the Proteas.

De Leede retired hurt on six in the sixth over of Sunday’s match after being hit by a rising Haris Rauf delivery that was clocked at 142km/h.

The ball struck de Leede on the grille of the helmet, causing a cut above and below his right eye.

De Leede was bleeding as he was assisted off the ground and was later subbed out with concussion for Logan Van Beek.

The incident summed up the Netherlands’ batting struggles, with the minnows outclassed by a ruthless Pakistan attack.

Naseem Shah was superb with figures of 1-11 from four overs, while Rauf (1-10 off three) and Mohammad Wasim (2-15) were also influential. Spinner Shadab Khan cashed in with 3-22.

The Netherlands crawled to 1-19 from their six-over Powerplay, and they were 3-34 after 10 overs.

Colin Ackermann (27 off 27 balls) was the only batter to show any semblance of fluency in a poor effort from the Netherlands.

Babar Azam’s team started the tournament with a loss to India in a last-ball thriller, and their title hopes were dealt another huge blow when they were beaten by Zimbabwe on Thursday night in another match that went down to the wire.
