For golf influencer Paige Spiranac, it seems one of the biggest takeaways from Michael Block’s phenomenal and inspiring PGA Championship performance was a perceived lack of romance between him and his wife.
As the entire golf world willed Block onto glory throughout the final round at Oak Hill in Rochester, he rode that wave of support to finish tied for 15th in the tournament.
He had multiple magic moments – including a special slam-dunk hole-in-one at the par-3 15th hole – carrying him to earn automatic qualification at next year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla.
At the end of it all on the 18th green, Block’s wife Val approached him with her arms outstretched, with the husband and wife embracing.
But on her podcast, Playing A Round, Spiranac said she felt Block denied his wife a kiss in that moment.

‘I’m just saying, if I’m on camera and I’m going up to my man, and I’m going in for a hug, and I’m putting my head up, going for a kiss, and they just deny me a kiss in front of all these people on camera, I would be bringing that up later,’ she said.
‘Not only later that day, but every single day for the rest of our lives until we die. We’ll be laying next to each other on our deathbed and be like, “Remember that moment you didn’t kiss me on camera?” That would be the last thing I would ever say.’
It’s likely Block wasn’t thinking about that in the moment, after winning the title of Low Professional at the tournament and taking home almost $300,000 for his spectacular finish.
‘My life’s changed, but my life’s only changed for the better,’ Block said. ‘I’ve got my family. I’ve got my friends. I’ve got the people that really love me and care about me here. It’s been an epic experience.’
He has the chance to earn even more cash as he prepares for the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial in Texas. Block earned a sponsors exemption in order to compete in the tournament.
