Novak Djokovic gave the perfect response to being booed onto court when he eased through to the quarter finals of the French Open.

The defending champion was given a less than cordial welcome by a significant portion of the crowd when he walked on to the Court Suzanne Lenglen to tackle the dangerous Argentinian clay court expert Diego Schwartzmann.

However he then put in an absolutely commanding display, winning 6-1 6-3 6-3 and seemingly feeding off the hostility which has mostly avoided him since he was kicked out of Australia in January.

It has been a strong turnaround for him since then and he looks in perfect shape to take on what could be a mammoth challenge in the last eight.

His scheduled opponent is Rafael Nadal, who was due to play later on Sunday against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

So far nobody has managed to lay a glove on Djokovic, who had excellent preparation after winning the Italian Open.

The diminutive Schwartzmann has given him a severe test before on the clay but this was one-way traffic from the outset.

Even in the moment of victory he got a fairly lukewarm response.

‘I’ve got a lot of respect for Diego and he’s specialist for this surface so it wasn’t easy in these conditions but I did well, I found my serve in important moments,’ said Djokovic.
