Norwich City co-owner Delia Smith claimed she was ‘saddened’ that Ipswich Town had not yet apologised to her after a can was thrown at her car ahead of their 2-2 draw last month.

A video shows Smith’s car arriving at Portman Road for the game on December 16 with cans of lager appearing to be thrown at the vehicle, with cries of ‘scum’ being heard from members of the public.

Fans had gathered around a road leading to the stadium to greet the players as they arrived for the match.

Smith’s car followed the team coaches and a police van towards the ground, with several other missiels seen being thrown towards the direction of the vehicle.

Smith and her husband Michael Wynn Jones released a statement regarding the incident on Friday, thanking Ipswich fans for their messages of support, with some even sending flowers.

‘Delia and Michael would like to thank all the Ipswich Town supporters who are still sending messages of support, and even flowers, after the event to apologise for what took place at the derby match,’ it said.

‘There has been a very good relationship with Ipswich Town during our tenure of 28 years, and we are saddened that we are yet to receive a public apology.’

Smith and her husband are majority shareholders at the football club alongside Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio.

Ipswich are reportedly yet to comment on the incident.

The pair took over Sir Geoffrey Watling’s sharehold at the club back in 1997.
