The Nike Air Max 90 cemented its place in the sneaker pantheon long ago, but it continues to flex its creative muscle 33 years after its debut.

As the Swoosh further ideates on how to disseminate the silhouette’s DNA, Tinker Hatfield’s creation has emerged in a new color scheme that combines heritage and modern style. A “White/Cool Grey/Black” arrangement takes over the bulk of the pair’s upper, nodding to the sneaker’s original “Infrared” (technically “Radiant Red”) look from 1990. Profile swooshes, TPU eyelets near the top of the tongue, and other branded hits throughout the upper, however, deviate in a golden yellow hue. The spring-ready touch also animates the Air Max bubble underfoot, interrupting the midsole’s grayscale makeover. Furthermore, waffle-patterned outsoles rooted in Nike Running legacy deliver a “Light Gum Brown” finish.

Gum bottoms aren’t new to the Air Max 90 nor to other Nike, Inc. products. Historically reserved for summertime, the tacky finish has landed across countless Nike SB releases over the last 21 years due to its performance benefits. Handfuls of Nike Sportswear styles have also recently surfaced with the brown tooling, offering fans of the look multiple options.

Enjoy retailer photography of the pair ahead, as you wait for official nike.com launch details. The upcoming Air Max is priced at $130 USD.

In related sneaker news, the Air Jordan 4 “Olive” is set to release on November 18th.
