Two weeks ago, Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge won the Berlin Marathon in a time of 2:02:42. Until today, he held the World Record with a time of 2:01:09 that he posted at the Berlin Marathon in 2022.

He was wearing a prototype of the Nike Alphafly 3 – the yet unreleased update to the Alphafly 2.

Kelvin Kiptum breaks the World Record

Today another Kenyan athlete makes history: the 23 year old Kelvin Kiptum won the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, breaking the World Record by running it in 2:00:35

Aside from the incredible athletic achievement and how close it gets to 2 hours, the thing of notice for us is that Nike still reigns supreme at the top of the Mens Marathon podiums.

Sifan Hassan wins the Womens’ race

The Dutch athlete wins the Womens’ race in a time of 2:13:44, the second best time ever in the world and new European Record.

On a side note, this means that Sifan holds every single European record for any distance between 1500m and the Marathon.

With this result, she improves her personal best by almost 5 minutes. This is her second marathon.

Sifan Hassan was also wearing a pair of Nike Alphafly 3.

In Berlin, the first two places of the Womens’ race were won by runners wearing Adidas’ newest, $500 Marathon Racing shoe: the Adios Pro Evo 1.

Competition in the Marathon is staying extremely high, both for the athletes and for the brands that make their shoes.

We’ll be watching with interest both “competitions”, looking forward to when we will be testing these new super-shoes.
