The explosion of the Air Max category over the last three-and-a-half-decades can be accredited to a several different models including the Air Max 1. But is Nike doing enough to keep Air afloat?

Since late 2022, the Air Max 1 has made a furious comeback at retail as an unprecedented number of general releases became available. The existing challenge for the Swoosh isn’t to keep the existing fanbase interested, but to appeal to the younger demographic. With so many more players in the sneaker game, the Gen-Z audience may feel less attached to older Nike models as they’re engaged by newer challengers in the market, but that hasn’t stopped Nike from pumping out more and more of the original ’87 model.

This new colorway approaches a simple color-blocking scheme, pairing the punchy volt hue against a base that reminds us of the classic “Chili” colorway. Black mudguards are paired with that spicy red on the Swoosh logo and the forefoot of the traction, while a the neon yellow/green appears on the tongue label, eyelets, heel logo, and insole tag. Furthermore, Nike has applied a pattern of waves on the interior, suggesting a specific concept behind this seemingly pedestrian design.

This latest Air Max 1 in-line offering is set to arrive at retailers on March 7th, 2024 with an expected MSRP of $150.
