Nick Kyrgios sends his fans a VERY rude message after having surgery on the injured knee that ruined his Australian Open

  • Kyrgios had surgery on his knee on Monday
  • Made a post before and after the operation
  • His second post featured a rude gesture

Nick Kyrgios has sent his social media followers a very rude message straight after having surgery to fix the knee injury that saw him make a shock withdrawal from the Australian Open just 24 hours before he was due to play his first match.

The Australian star stunned the tennis world last Monday when he revealed a torn meniscus and cyst in his knee were so serious he couldn’t take to the court at his home grand slam for fear of injuring himself permanently.

The 27-year-old announced he’d be travelling to his home town of Canberra to have the joint operated on, and on Monday he shared the experience with his followers in two posts.

The green ticks on his 'after' Instagram post seem to indicate all went well with the procedure - but the Aussie bad boy doesn't look happy to be in hospital

Firstly he put up a video of himself dressed for surgery with his knee freshly shaved and a health worker in the background, accompanied by the caption ‘It’s time’ and a frowning and sweating emoji.

The second post is a photo of Kyrgios sitting up in a hospital bed after the procedure, giving the middle finger to the camera as he lies back with breathing tubes attached to his nose and his eyes closed.

It appears the operation went well as there are four green ticks attached to the shot, which seems to have been taken by Kyrgios’ girlfriend Costeen Hatzi – who also posted it to her Instagram with the caption ‘poor baby’.

Kyrgios had previously shared a grisly photo of the fluid that had to be removed from his knee with a syringe as he tried to overcome the injury before his withdrawal from the tournament.

He and his physiotherapist Will Maher made the decision not to play in the Open just hours after he had a workout with doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis prior to the shock announcement.

A routine MRI revealed the damage after Kyrgios suffered discomfort, and he and Maher decided to use his charity match against Novak Djokovic as a test of whether his knee would stand up to two weeks of punishment at Melbourne Park.

‘There’s a parameniscal cyst growing in his left meniscus, which is the result of a small tear in his lateral meniscus,’ Maher explained.

‘Even at that stage it was still worth persevering to see if we could do anything to get him back on court.

‘To Nick’s credit, he did try everything, to the point even last week he was having a procedure called a fenestration and drainage where they use a syringe to try and drain the cyst, which Nick has some pretty gruesome photos of.’

Kyrgios swore he would make a full recovery from the injury soon after the news broke that he wouldn’t take to the court at the grand slam.
