Polarising Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios is in career best form – despite dealing with family pain off the court.
The 27-year-old will be seeded at the US Open come August 29 after an impressive 2022 to date which saw him reach the Wimbledon final.
Currently ranked 37 in the world, the Canberra raised star has won 15 of his past 17 singles matches on tour.
He is a genuine chance of claiming the hardcourt grand slam at Flushing Meadows if he can maintain the rage.
Kyrgios’ scintillating form comes despite his mother Norlaila and father Giorgos both battling illness at home.

Speaking after Saturday morning’s defeat (AEST) at the Montreal Masters 1000, Kyrgios admitted his thoughts are understandably elsewhere at times.
‘I honestly don’t care [about losing the winning streak],’ Kyrgios said after losing to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in three sets in the quarter-finals.
‘I’ve been away from home, away from my mum who is in hospital, away from my dad.
‘They’re not very well at the moment. So I don’t really care about no winning streak.
‘I’ve got two more tournaments [Cincinnati and the US Open] left before I can go home.’
After beating world number one Daniil Medvedev at the Canadian Open earlier this week, Kyrgios wrote a message to his mother on a courtside camera lens.
‘Stay strong Ma,’ it read, accompanied by a love heart.

Kyrgios will now look for a big showing in Cincinnati so he can snare a crucial top-16 seeding in New York.
It will ensure he won’t play a higher-ranked rival until at least the second week.
‘It was a goal more so that I didn’t get one of the titans or the big gods in the first round (at Flushing Meadows),’ Kyrgios said.
‘I can actually work my way into the draw if the draw’s kind. But, look, I always feel like my game is right there.
‘I feel like that no matter who I play…hopefully I can keep it going.’
