Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant has been through some tough situations in his career. Not only with his own incidents, but with others as well. Through it all, Durant has always been about ball and about the game of basketball.
His tenure with the Nets has had its share of eventful moments as well. Just in this past year, Brooklyn suffered through an 11-game losing streak that eventually resulted in getting swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs in 2022. Before the sweep, Irving went from being unable to play at all to only playing on the road to becoming a full-time player once New York City lifted the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for athletes and entertainers.
In more recent memory, Durant requested a trade this past offseason only to rescind the request after talking to Brooklyn’s front office and ownership and then, Irving tweeted a link to a documentary filled with anti-Semitic material that resulted in him being suspended for eight games.
Through it all, the Nets persevered to a tune of a 25-13 record that includes a 12-game winning streak. Among other things, Durant discussed Irving’s tweet and the incident didn’t tear the team apart with ESPN’s Nick Friedell:
“Because we was together regardless. I think coming into the training camp, we understood that it’s going to be a lot on us from a media standpoint, from just the noise in general around our team, so I think that made us tighter once camp started. So we was able to take the Kyrie stuff and move in stride because we were already stuck together before that. We started to win some games, started to get better as a team, and do some things out there that work for us. And now it seems like everything was patched all together, but it felt like it was always cool, to be honest.”
Brooklyn’ next game is Friday as they visit the New Orleans Pelicans.
