Brooklyn Nets wing Cam Johnson is expected to command a contract around four years and $90 million, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. In Scotto’s piece published earlier this week, he noted that he spoke with six NBA executives who project Johnson to command that kind of contract in the offseason.

Johnson, 27, just finished the final year of the rookie contract he signed in July of 2019 after being taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of North Carolina. He was subsequently traded to the Phoenix Suns and played 3.5 seasons there before being traded to Brooklyn during this past trade deadline in the Kevin Durant deal.

As Scotto notes, most around the league noticed that Johnson was able to handle a bigger role than what he had in Phoenix as an 3-and-D player. When Johnson came to Brooklyn, he showed that he was able to score from all three levels thanks to his shooting and improved ball-handling ability. Johnson showed enough in his 29 games for the Nets that others around the league believe that he will be a fairly-hot commodity on the market.

In HoopsHype’s free-agent rankings, Johnson is slotted at 14 just behind Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz and just in front of Harrison Barnes of the Sacramento Kings. Here’s some of what HoopsHype had to say about Johnson’s prospects on the free-agent market:

“Several teams are expected to have interest in Johnson as a restricted free agent, including the Houston Rockets, league sources told HoopsHype.

Despite getting swept by Philadelphia, the consensus from NBA executives was Johnson helped his stock by averaging 18.5 points and 5.8 rebounds on an efficient 50.9 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from downtown in the series. It’s also worth noting Johnson, who underwent knee surgery earlier this season in Phoenix, logged 38 minutes per game in the playoffs as Brooklyn’s second-leading scorer.”
