Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson is expected to sign a contract this offseason that will exceed $20 million in average annual value, according to Alex Schiffer and John Hollinger of The Athletic. Johnson is a restricted free-agent meaning that Brooklyn has the right to match any offer that Johnson receives.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Johnson turned down a contract offered by the Phoenix Suns that would have been between $66 million ($16.5 million per year) and $72 million ($18 million) over four years. After Johnson turned down the contract, Phoenix traded him and others to the Nets in the Kevin Durant trade.
According to Schiffer, Brooklyn has no interest in letting Johnson walk. During Johnson’s exit interview, he said that he believes that the people in the Nets’ organization are high-quality people and that he has warmed up to New York. Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks said that Johnson knows how the team feels about him and that they hope he’s back with the squad.
