The Brooklyn Nets have their roster set for the most part going into the 2023-24 season, but a trade can be made at anytime. For Brooklyn, if they want to put themselves in a better position to make the playoffs, they will need to add something to the roster that they are lacking.
As of right now, the core of the team is set in stone with Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton along with important veterans in Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Royce O’Neale. However, much has been made about how much shooting the Nets lost this offseason now that players like Joe Harris and Seth Curry are no longer on the team.
While Brooklyn will be one of the better teams in the league on the defensive side of the ball, they will need to be better on offense if they want a shot at the postseason. This trade suggested by James Piercey of the NBA Analysis Network could be one that gets more offense and shooting in Brooklyn:
The Mock Trade:
Brooklyn Nets receive: Duncan Robinson and Nikola Jovic
Miami Heat receive: Spencer Dinwiddie
Should the Nets do this trade?
Getting Robinson and Jovic in this deal would be good for Brooklyn’s future prospects in rounding out the team. Robinson is not shooting the ball the same after he received his contract, but he is still 39.9% shooter from three-point range for his career so the Nets could bank on him returning to that form to space the floor for Bridges and Johnson.
Jovic is a good prospect for Brooklyn to have on the team as he presents some interesting tools as a big man with his mobility and fluidity on the perimeter. Jovic profiles like a player who can be effective in the stretch-forward role and that could be useful for the Nets if he can develop into that kind of player.
Losing Dinwiddie would hurt the team immensely because he is the only comfortable table-setter on the team other than Ben Simmons. Also, Dinwiddie poses a threat on offense that Simmons doesn’t at this point in time, but if Simmons is completely healthy and ready to be the starting lead guard. Dinwiddie is probably better served helping another compete as the point guard.
Verdict: Yes, the Nets should do this trade.
