T20 World Cup 2022 FINAL: Melbourne Weather Report – The La Nina weather phenomenon has put the T20 World Cup 2022 final between Pakistan and England in Melbourne on Sunday under serious threat. With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a 95 per cent rain in the Victorian Capital on Sunday evening, the summit clash can be moved to the reserve day on Monday. On the reserve day, a 3 pm (local time) slot has been allotted with an additional two hours in place to complete the game. But the frustration might continue on the back-up day as well with the meteorological department predicting a 95 per cent chance of showers (5 to 10 mm) on Monday.

Earlier this year, Andrew Watkins, the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of long-range forecasting, had warned about the La Nina phenomenon striking the East Coast, which could turn out to be frustrating for the organisers of the marquee event.
“At the moment, this La Nina isn’t looking particularly strong and it’s looking like it will peak probably fairly early in the summer or late in the spring. Which is a little bit unusual, a little bit different to the La Ninas that we’ve been seeing in recent years,” Watkins told ABC last month.
T20 World Cup 2022 FINAL: What happens if both the days are washed out?
- The T20 World Cup 2022 organizing committee will not move the final to a favourable venue if the weather plays a spoilsport on both days.
- A minimum of 5 overs were required in the chase to determine a result in the knock-out stage but at least 10 overs will be needed in the summit clash.
- The T20 World Cup playing conditions states that every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day.
- If the minimum number of overs cannot be bowled on the scheduled day then the match moves to reserve day.
- If the final is washed out, the trophy will be shared between the two finalists.
- The reserve day timings have changed from 1.30 PM IST to 9:30 AM IST to accommodate more overs and increase a chance of play

“Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe. Light winds becoming north to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h during the morning then tending north to northwesterly during the day,” the Bureau of Meteorology predicted on Friday morning.
The weather for the reserve day, Monday, November 14 isn’t encouraging either with the possibility of 95 per cent rain on the day. As a result, the organisers have moved the timings on Monday, with a 9:30 AM IST start time put in place. The preponement allows for more time to commence and finish the game, providing a chance for a fair result. In case of a washout, both teams share the trophy.
